The dessert was a huge success with my family, so I’ll make twice as much next time.

Crinkle cake with phyllo dough is a delightful dessert that combines creamy and flaky textures, perfect for a cozy family gathering or a special occasion. This dish has its roots in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines, where phyllo dough is a staple in many sweet and savory dishes. It’s a wonderful treat to make when you want to impress your loved ones with something a bit different yet comforting. The layers of phyllo, combined with a creamy custard, create a beautiful crinkled effect that is both visually appealing and delicious.
This crinkle cake pairs beautifully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. For a touch of freshness, serve it with a side of mixed berries or a simple fruit salad. A cup of hot tea or coffee also complements the flavors of this cake wonderfully, making it a perfect dessert for an afternoon tea or a cozy evening with family.
Crinkle Cake with Phyllo Dough
Servings: 8
Ingredients
1 package phyllo dough, thawed
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 cup heavy cream
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with a little melted butter.
Unroll the phyllo dough and gently crinkle each sheet, placing it into the baking dish in a loose, accordion-like fashion.
Brush the tops of the crinkled phyllo sheets with the melted butter.
In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar, milk, heavy cream, eggs, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
Pour the custard mixture evenly over the crinkled phyllo dough in the baking dish.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
Allow the cake to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar, if desired.
Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
Variations & Tips
For a nutty twist, sprinkle chopped walnuts or pistachios between the layers of phyllo before pouring the custard. If you have picky eaters who prefer less sweetness, reduce the sugar to 3/4 cup. For a citrusy flavor, add a teaspoon of grated lemon or orange zest to the custard mixture. You can also experiment with adding a handful of raisins or dried cranberries for a fruity touch.
