This recipe is my new favorite—I’ve cooked it four times and counting!

Calzones are a delightful twist on the classic pizza, originating from Italy and beloved by many for their portability and versatility. This low-carb version is perfect for those looking to enjoy a crispy, flaky, and golden treat without the extra carbs. It’s a wonderful dish to make for family gatherings or a cozy dinner at home, offering a comforting blend of ham and cheese wrapped in a delicious crust.
These low-carb ham and cheese calzones pair beautifully with a fresh green salad or some roasted vegetables. You might also consider serving them with a side of marinara sauce for dipping, which adds a lovely tangy contrast to the rich, cheesy filling. For a heartier meal, a bowl of warm, homemade soup would complement the calzones perfectly.
Low Carb Ham and Cheese Calzones
Servings: 4
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups almond flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
2 ounces cream cheese
1 large egg
1/2 cup diced ham
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1 tablespoon olive oil
Directions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the mozzarella cheese and cream cheese. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the cheeses are melted and well combined.
In another bowl, mix together the almond flour, baking powder, and salt.
Add the dry ingredients to the melted cheese mixture, along with the egg. Mix until a dough forms.
Divide the dough into four equal parts. Roll each part into a circle on a piece of parchment paper.
In a small bowl, combine the diced ham, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Spoon the ham and cheese mixture onto one half of each dough circle, leaving a small border around the edge.
Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges together to seal.
Brush the tops of the calzones with olive oil.
Place the calzones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the calzones are golden brown and crispy.
Let cool slightly before serving.
Variations & Tips
For a different flavor, try using cooked bacon or turkey instead of ham. You can also add some sautéed spinach or mushrooms to the filling for extra veggies. If you have picky eaters, consider letting them choose their own fillings, such as pepperoni or a different type of cheese. For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the filling.
